Construction Shutdown for Victoria

Last night it was announced by the Premier of Victoria that there will be a construction shutdown, effective from 11:59pm Monday the 20th of September, due to recent protests and increasing cases linked to the construction industry. This shutdown affects the entirety of Metro Melbourne, and other LGAs which are currently locked down (Greater Geelong, Ballarat, Surf Coast and Mitchell). This means that no new work is to be completed on job sites for the duration of the shutdown, including government critical infrastructure projects. There are limited exemptions for construction workers attending sites to render them safe today and over the next couple of days. Shutdown is due to end (subject to epidemiology, as determined by CHO):

• For Metro Melbourne - On the 5th of October
• LGAs - Until the date that they are scheduled to have current restrictions end

Essential and urgent works are still permitted under the new restrictions, however any works that can be delayed must be. Prior to reopening, all sites will be required to demonstrate compliance with the CHO directions, including showing evidence to your employer of having at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.
